This class will focus on using our lived experiences to deepen a moment or story or scene when we are writing about real people, including ourselves. These are the stories of our bodies and our lives. Exercises are experiential and exploratory, focusing on elements of craft, traditional and hybrid forms, and the borders of our truth(s) and how they collide within us and with the truth(s) of others.

This class will include close readings of Maggie Nelson, Marguerite Duras, Lidia Yuknavitch, Charles Baudelaire, Ocean Vuong, Georges Bataille, Kathy Acker, Lacy M. Johnson, Jerry McGill, Leslie Jamison, Chloe Caldwell, Cheryll Strayed, Kate Zambreno, Helen Cixous, and more. Each month will include prompts and writing activities designed to vary your approach to story and the page. You will be asked to critique and you will receive critiques from two peers per month. You will receive monthly personalized critiques from Asha Dore
